Presented here for Bidding Consideration is this 1981 Mercedes Benz 300TD Wagon with Sunroof. We purchased it at an Estate Sale after it had sat in an underground garage for a number of years. A quick change of oil and a new battery and fuel, checked the tires it started up and I drove it home 95 miles. On the drive it ran with a loud valve clacking. Once I sent it to the shop, it was found that at one point possibly due to lack of oil and driving it, that the engine would either have to be rebuilt or replaced. We chose the engine swap option after a proper one was located. The Car has been gone through mechanically and the Owner of the Shop declared that He would drive the Wagon to Florida from our area of New York no problem. Has a New Battery, and Radiator. Always starts easily no matter the Weather or if it sat for 2 months. It runs great on the freeway, not a Race Car but holds its own cruising. The Cruise Control Works. The Heat works but the blower motor doesn't seem to, still fairly warm inside for winter, wipers and sprayers work, rear window wiper does not. Windows Go Up and Down, Radio gets One Station and The Antenna is broken but the motor for it when you click the button works. The Floors are Perfect and Rust Free as is the Frame so it is an excellent Foundation and Entry Level Turbo Diesel as many know these cars restored are Expensive. Appearance wise, a light restoration would make it look nicer, interior is good enough to get by, one small tear on driver seat on edge, Dash is clean. All Glass is good, vacuum door locks work. Could use a new muffler, it comes with Owner's Manual and Service Record Book. I would see we spent almost $4000 on it with the work done. I also will include 2 Spare Front Fenders. As usual with all old diesels you get those oil spots they like to mark their territory with. So you may ask why after all this effort would we be selling? We are downsizing, we own a Twin to this, a 1983 Same Color and we also own 2 other cars and soon a New SUV at the start of next month. Keep in mind the Wagon is nearly 40 years old. The word is, if there was ever a Zombie Apocalypse The ONE thing that would survive no matter what, would be These German Road Warriors, They Handle All Types of Road Conditions Great. The Diesel Fuel Economy is Really Nice Too. Reserve is Low, Please Bid and Good Luck. I don't need Help selling the Car either. Thanks.. Bidders with 0 Feedback are Blocked. On Nov-18-20 at 07:12:11 PST, seller added the following information:The last 2 photos show the rust spots that were repaired poorly, they are the spots that are in the corners of the passenger and driver side rear doors. I forgot to add these when I posted the Wagon and wanted to try and be as forthcoming as possible. Again the Foundation is excellent and the value is certainly in the Legen Legendary OM 617 912 Motor particularly with under 200k Miles.
