450 SL Roadster
three long-term owners from new
Here’s another nice Mercedes convertible we’ve recently
acquired for our Ebay customers. Please feel
free to contact me directly with any questions before the auction ends. My name is Mark and
my phone number is 206/[hidden information]. You’re welcome and encouraged to make an
appointment to inspect and test-drive the car.
Ever spent an afternoon driving a vintage
Mercedes Benz? What a treat! Smooth is
the word for sure. Smooth powerful
acceleration. Smooth handling in the
curves or on the highway. Comfort,
styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, an SL of any variant is one of
the best values for the overall driving experience that a classic Benz has to
offer. Look over my posted
photos and I’m sure you’ll agree. What
you’re viewing here is the result of a wash and vacuum only. I've always felt that the US Version four headlight system mandated by the DOT at the time detracted from the sleek 1970's design of these roadsters and was glad to see original factory Euro headlights were installed here, likely by the original owner.
Mercedes sold new at the Sunset Boulevard Mercedes Benz dealer in Hollywood. It’s remained a sunny day driver for its third
owner now the past five or six years here in the town of Federal Way, only driving our salt-free western Washington roads
during the warmer months. Along
with the free & clear title, we received the original owner’s manual and factory
maintenance book as well as the receipts you see pictured. All will be sent USPS Priority Mail when the car leaves my warehouse on the way to the next caretaker.
Though I always include at least 24 photos on
Ebay listings to highlight condition, the first thing I’m usually asked about is
RUST. Please, this Mercedes HATES rust and you won’t find any here to cause you concern! As shown, the undercarriage, rocker panels and fenders are all solid. The Puget Sound area is
famous for rain, but our winter roads are rarely salted. At the first sign of a snowflake everyone
panics and just stays home. Having spent
the first half of its life in sunny SoCal and now here in western Washington,
this SL hasn’t seen much in the way of metal-eating road salt and was factory
I take pride in the vehicles we offer and feel you
should know as much about them as possible.
Accordingly, here’s a list of the good and also a few things needing
Hop in; fire up the strong 4.5-liter V-8 and it
starts almost immediately – even when cold.
The car runs and drives as I feel it should – immediate, strong oil
pressure, strong battery and charging system and no perceived brake fade or
pull. The automatic transmission shifts
through the gears as expected with no slippage.
My tech looked the vehicle over when it arrived at our warehouse,
changed the oil and installed fresh sparkplugs (the cap, rotor and wires were
fine). Engine idle still seems a bit low
until running temperature is reached, but not a big deal.
On the interior, the leather seats are in OK condition
as pictured with some age-related leather creases and seam stitching on the driver’s
backrest. Both power window switches and
motors work fine. You’ll appreciate the CD stereo. It’s vastly superior to the old Becker radios
most W107 cars arrived with from Stuttgart. All carpets are original and covered by
matched factory floor mats. The trunk well
holds a mounted spare on a factory rim.
The four locking black alloy wheels are straight
and true. With their wider stance, they
add a classy, aggressive look you just don’t see with stock wheels. Each is wrapped with excellent low-profile 245/45ZR17
Velozza ZXV touring radials, all with 80-plus percent remaining tread. I’ve now spent several sunny days driving the
SL on my rounds, including freeway miles, and feel this is a very decent car.
About the only real flaws I’ve encountered are: The
A/C doesn’t come on, though the heater servo and blower have been replaced and
the warm air system functions. A tech
should upgrade to R134A refrigerant anyway when servicing. Although the speedometer works great and
appears accurate, the odometer doesn’t progress, so true miles are unknown. No issues with the matched factory hardtop. I haven’t had it off the car, so the
condition of the soft top is unknown. Paint
is about a 6 or 7 of 10 but is overall very passable. As you’d expect, there are nicks, chips, small
dings and areas that have been touched-up over the years. The trunk and door seals are original. I'd suggest they be replaced if the vehicle isn't going to be garaged regularly.A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:
of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new Ebay
members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email
before placing a bid. If I don’t
have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. As I’ve outlined above, the phone number to
talk directly to me is 206/[hidden information].
Please feel free to call (or text) any time during the auction. My name is MARK. You’re welcome and encouraged to
come by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect & drive the Mercedes. You might also make an offer during the auction, as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call
and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end.
I always reserve the right to sell during this period. The title has a past salvage brand. Neither I nor the previous owner know the
circumstance as any past insurance claim occurred long before either of us
owned the car.
in full is due by cash (in-person only), a wire transfer or other certified
funds within seven days of the auction closing.
I can accept credit/debit cards but will need to first send an invoice
from our card processor (SQUARE) with the 3.25% fee charged by them added. Please remember you are bidding to buy, and I
fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come
inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this
before the auction ends.
If you decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle
transportcompanies to choose from. While delivery and the company
chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER, I ship vehicles regularly
and have access to the nationwide Central Dispatch system and can check
to see what typical delivery costs have been to your area recently. We can then post a transport offer for the
car at a fair price. Usually, a shipper
is lined up within just a few days.
You’ll pay the transporter COD when they arrive with the vehicle. No upfront deposit or other hassles.
TheMercedes can be stored free of charge at my
location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has
been received. After that period storage
is $20 per day. Sorry, my personalized plates don't come with the vehicle.
