1971 camaro z28 with factory rally sport package re finished in its original Antique Green with black rally stripes. Power steering .Power brakes, no A/C, I am considering the sale of this car only because I am interested in something else, It was not for sale before and won't likely be for sale after. I take passing the torch seriously , I don't know how some people describe a car in a few sentences. So I will do my best to break it down into segments . 1st the basics then more detail.The history, I purchased the car in aprox: 2017 from someone who had just gotten it from the original owner in Rode Island. The car was on the road until just about 1981, the original owner as the story goes got disgusted with the car when he had it painted a different shade of green and the paint started peeling. It was parked in the garage for about 35 years. So the car was never really altered much as these cars usually are, The emissions pump and plumbing was removed , the car had old G-50-15 tires on the original rims and the owner cut a small strip of the front inner fender wells where they meet the front fender to keep the tires from rubbing. An after market oil pressure gauge was cut into the dash panel. I have many old titles and inspections papers showing the car had something like 67-8 thousand miles when parked in 81. It now has 73000The car still has its original LT1 350 motor, Original TH 400 trans, Original 3:73 posi rear , Original z28 wheels , including spare and jack hardware. Original manifolds on motor, Original holley carb , and I am pretty sure original dist.
Anything I replaced like alternator , Started, radiator, master cylinder etc. I boxed and kept the originals for possibility of any 100% concours restoration in the future.I would like to point out that after putting the car on the road in my name I noticed that the vin tag on the dash and the door have a 2 in place of a V, According to the paperwork it has been registered that way since day one. Obviously a typo from way back. The V is supposed to be a number 2 and not a letter. It is in the production sequence part of the vin and has no significance as to the identity of the car. This is not a problem as far as I am concerned and can easily be rectified at a DMV after Covid or just be left as it has been through out the the years, but I feel I should point it out. and the car has a small leak from the power steering box where the steering shaft goes in, leaves a spot on the floor about the size of a half dollar when parked a month or more.Lets talk about rust and rot since it is so important on these cars,, as you can see I tried to show in the photos some of the most important places where these cars rusted , Rear frame rails, rockers, doors, rear trunk hinge areas , etc. This car did not rust in those common areas, the floors are all original GM as is the trunk floor, frame rails ,doors etc. The car had two small rust areas cut out of the lower outer front fenders and repaired with metal migged in with no overlapping, the inner fender structure was not compromised. Behind the driver rear wheel the lower part of the qtr. from just below the side marker light was replaced . Anything else was minimal and there was no metal repair needed in the doors, the rockers, the deck or any of those usual places.So what did I do since owning the car? I dismantled what ever needed to do an (as needed ) restoration. to bring the car back to being a reliable and fun cruise in and local car show vehicle. It is still kept in a heated garage of course.When I got the car and removed the drive train I could see that the motor was very clean and painted with an orange / brown what looked like an etch prime of some kind and had the original owners name written on the front with a marker, Indicating that for whatever reason the motor was rebuilt before the car was removed from service, I did not take the long block apart did a re gasket and looked inside to make sure it was clean and did not have a plastic timing chain, which it did not. and I saw TRW on the bottoms of the pistons. It still has the solid lifters. The motor was immaculate inside, So it seems it was professionally rebuilt before sitting. It runs very good and does not smoke at all and has oil pressure mostly in the 60-80 pound range. I cleaned and detailed the trans and serviced it and replaced front pump o-ring front and rear seals etc. It shifts perfect. I replaced the u joints and the rear axle bearings. I run Brad Penn high zinc race oil in it.I replaced all the glass, weather striping, carpet, front seats re covered from Legendary. I installed a retro high power radio with CD, front speaker has been altered under dash to be two small modern speakers and I put two 6 X 9 speakers in the rear interior side panels. ( The holes where already there ) . The deluxe door panels are new and the original plastics where re painted along with the dash pad. The rear package tray is new and houses the rare rear factory defogger and factory speaker. Pretty much everything important works on the car. It passes NYS safety inspection. Horn ,wipers, lights, brakes ,speedo ,tach, all work, not sure about temp gauge or amp gauge, wiper squirters unknown because I do not put fluid in due that the car is never driven in that kind of weather.although the car had pretty nice parts on it I replaced some things to make it worthy. What on the car is reproduction? grill surround, bumpers, carpet, radiator, trim rings, radio, air cleaner lid, front inner fender wells, Like I said earlier I kept everything original and it will all come with the car, radio also, If the car is shipped I can carefully pack these things in the car but of course can't do that with larger items like the original harrison radiator or fender wells , rear bumper I even kept the exhaust head pipes. These items would need to be picked up somehow outside of the car at the buyers expense.The paint was done in base clear PPG product, the black stripes are under the clear and done the way the originals where. The quality of a paint job is possibly the most difficult for anyone to describe. The car gets compliments on the paint everywhere it goes, It is not perfect by way of some very small imperfections that do not jump out at you.The tires are oversized with 275-60-15 on rear and 245-60-15 front, the front will rub rarely under just the right conditions. I have air shocks in the rear from when it had wider wheels that I can leave in or replace with the regular shocks that I have. It rides tight with the air shocks, rides pretty tight without them too.The exhaust is PYPES 2 1/2 inch aluminized with transverse stainless muffler and pypes stainless tips. It sounds great.Hopefully I have painted a pretty good picture of the car along with the photos. Its a pretty rare car with integrity that can be enjoyed as it is or brought to the next level of for the purist.Lastly and very important is that you recognize my old car guy sale ethic and know that I am strait forward person and it is very important to me that a buyer is happy with there purchase. That being said the same as any old car , it is a pc of machinery with thousands of moving parts and though I have no expectation of any serious issues, It is up to you to ask questions, look at it. ( I have a heated garage and it can be driven for a test drive with me driving if the roads are clean only ). It will be sold like all others As Is with no warrantee or guarantee of any kind other than my honest description at this time. I would prefer very much for the car to be purchased in person . I will only sell within the states. I will ask for $500.00 deposit within 24 hours and remaining payment ( before car can leave property) and remainder of payment via bank transfer or cash in person or combination of the two. I will accept Paypal to be used for deposit ONLY. I can have the car here for upwards of a month in safe storage while a shipping arrangement is being made as along as I am being informed regularly. (Shipping is to be planned and paid for by buyer.) I do not live in a neighborhood that is conducive to very large shipping trucks and would be better to see a trailer of some kind. The car is on the road and I can work (if closely informed) with driving the car to a nearby location for a pickup. Would hate to see it on wet roads.Another lastly, It drives me crazy when people start with some low bid and chase a reserve over and over. I live in a strait forward world "it is what it is" and I do not and never will have someone chasing your bid on my behalf.
