Any list of iconic American Muscle cars would be incomplete without including the Chevrolet Corvette, and none epitomizes the era better than this early 1969, numbers-matching 427 4-speed coupe. A true no-frills "Drivers Car" with manual steering, brakes, and windows, this car was built to do three things exceptionally well - Go fast, look incredible, and make every other car guy jealous. This beautiful car has an interesting history, given that it has only been on the road for less than half of it's 51 years. A 'father-son' frame-off restoration was started on Feb 26, 1990 (see last pic), with work being professionally done on the car as the owners could find the money. Thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours were spent on a full body and frame restoration, and for professional rebuilding of the original 'born-with' independent rear suspension, Muncie 4 speed transmission, and 427 390hp engine. Sadly, however, the father passed away before they could get it back on the road, and the car, mostly completed, was put into dry storage until I purchased it in February of this year. MechanicalAs stated above, the drive train was fully rebuilt, with receipts showing the bulk of the rebuilds being accomplished in the 2[hidden information] time-frame before going into storage . The engine runs strong, transmission shifts smoothly, and no noise or issues from the rear end. The car starts, runs, drives, and stops properly, tracks down the road straight, and is an absolute pleasure to drive. The engine is original and numbers-matching, with clear and unmolested VIN stampings on the block. The Muncie M-20 transmission is original as well, bearing the matching VIN and correct date code. The rear end has correct date code and is believed to be original to the car, but I have been unable to locate a VIN stamp. The brake system is fully rebuilt with new lines, master cylinder, and rebuilt calipers, car stops straight and smooth. The previous owners installed all new vacuum lines and actuators, and the headlight doors and wiper door operate properly. A vintage-correct but non-original Quadrajet carburetor was installed, fully rebuilt and functioning properly, and is fed by a non-original electric fuel pump. The original distributor is installed, and was converted to electronic (Pertronix) ignition at some point. The distributor works well, but the mechanical tachometer drive gear is inoperative. The Tach and cable test correctly, but the tach drive on the original distributor is worn, and will not spin the cable. Replacement distributors with mechanical tach drive are available, as is a rebuild service to restore the original distributor. I decided to leave it up to the next owner to decide whether to rebuild or replace the original distributor. I replaced the worn out (assumed original) starter with a high-torque mini-starter, the original starter will come with the car. Windshield Wipers will occasionally hang up when first started. We believe this is just an adjustment issue, but have not gotten them 'dialed in' as of yet.
Body The car was stripped down to gel-coat, and shows beautifully in black basecoat / clearcoat. I would categorize the finish as excellent driver-quality / good show quality. NOTE - The trim tag was missing from the car when I purchased it, and has not been found. Rather than purchase a reproduction, I am selling the car without the trim tag, just as I purchased it. I have been told that this will disqualify the car from NCRS judging, but obviously has NO effect on the beauty or drivability of the car. Please note, JUST the trim tag is missing, the VIN tag is intact and unmolested. All new soft seals from Corvette Rubber Company have been installed (including T-top and removable back glass seals), panel fitment is very good, and doors close nicely. New windshield, good original condition side and back glass. Chrome / stainless trim and bumpers are good to excellent. The 'birdcage' and body mounts are in excellent, near factory condition, zero rust, and no rust repairs. I have additional pictures of the birdcage that can be sent upon request. All new body bushings were installed when the body was re-assembled, and still look to be in excellent condition. Tires are brand new (less than 200 miles), no spare. InteriorThe interior, believed to be original except for the seat covers and carpet, is in good to excellent condition, with some minor wear. All gauges work correctly with the exception of the tach and clock. I was unable to locate a good original set of 1969 seatbelts, so the car will be sold without belts. Aftermarket reproductions are available, I will leave to the next owner to make that choice. LegalA non-refundable $1000 deposit is required via Paypal within 24 hours of auction ending.
