Very rare Aussie built 1936 right hand drive Ford coupe-ute.

The Ford coupe-utes date back to 1934 with 1936 being the best looking model (personal opinion!) and came with a sporty V8, the same as the roadster and the coupe. The coupe-ute is exactly that – a 5 window coupe that was constructed with a utility body – much more stylish than the equivalent ’36 Ford pickup. There are only a handful of these rare RHD ’36 coupe utes left out of the approximately 350 built, and even less in such unmolested condition. This ute had a body off restoration just over a decade ago by a previous owner. I have the original pictures of the vehicle when it was removed from a shed in western Victoria. It was largely straight and fairly rust free.

It’s running a ’39 flathead motor and 3 speed manual transmission. Everything works as it should. In recent times, I have replaced the timing cover and a crab-style distributor. It also has a new aluminium radiator (the original one - now reco'd - goes with the car) and thermo fan. The fuel system was recently flushed and the carburetor rebuilt. The battery and starter motor was also replaced in recent weeks. The speedo was rebuilt and a new speedo cable has just been made. The '36 sits on imported Firestone white wall tyres, including the fifth side-mounted spare.

The car is an easy starter. I recently drove it 50km down the highway without any trouble. No shakes, vibrations or shudders. It runs cool.

Interesting features are the factory “aircon” – the front window folds out (similar to some old split screen Kombis) and the rear window winds down and then there is the standard central air vent in front of the windscreen operated by a central lever in the cabin.

This car got its paint job by the farmer who restored it, so it's not a professional job. That said, it’s a good 20 footer. There are a few minor dints around the top of the rear tray area. The underside is very tidy with the chassis properly painted, excellent exhaust system and original brake setup.

Early Ford coupe-utes are super rare. This actual vehicle is featured on Wikipedia: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1936_Ford_Model_68_Coupe_Utility_([hidden information]).jpg

I’m happy to provide more pics and possibly video if required. Inspections are welcome.
