My father proudly drove drove this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 16V Cosworth off the dealer lot in 1986 at the sticker price of $38,330 (!!)
It has been in my family ever since so I know it to be original, accident free, and very likely never even driven on a salted road. Of the 1202 factory original models imported into the U.S., less than 15% of them were automatic versions. I doubt there are even a handful, if any, that are this complete, intact, and unmolested. If you're wondering why I would sell it, it is due to a change in circumstances - I would very much like to see it go to someone who knows and appreciates it for what it is.
Body: As indicated it is fully original, bondo-free - and apart from what you would expect from a driving car of this age there are two cosmetic dents to point out: one on the drivers side rear quarter panel and one by the rear licence plate; the paint and body are all original except the hood, which was completely, and incorrectly re-spraid decades ago after a technician accidentally dropped it onto a sharp part. The original driver's side plastic fog light lens is cracked, It works fine and I preferred to leave it on, however OEM replacements are readily available on eBay if you wish. The composite 16V body panels, fender flares, ground effects, etc., are all original and in good condition.Interior: No tears, splits or cracks in the original factory dashboard or leather seats, which is quite rare.  The vinyl trim at the top of three door panels are pealing by approximately 3/4 inches back where they meet the window and cosmetically need attention - to be factory original they can be rectified with some patience and upholstery glue - if you don't want to deal with it, 190E door cards are available or a good interior shop could do so at relatively low cost -- (the estimate fr my local shop for the three was $225.)Drivetrain: the engine idles and runs without flaw; oil and camshaft chain guides were regularly serviced and replaced.  As you can see from the picture, the engine bay is complete and preserved.  The automatic transmission properly shifts through all gears. Identified issues: The interior blower/fan switch, original Becker radio, lap time LCD display and the thimble for the emergency brake handle (it works fine) should be replaced. The SRS light just came on due to an intermittent steering slipstring connection - our diagnosis is with a bit of extended use it will likely will go away permanently - if not, the dealer cost for the part is $139 plus labor.  The left rear window and automatic antenna is currently stuck.  All other features power up and down, including the sun roof, gauges and more importantly the hydraulic road height leveling system...I have done my best to identify any issues in the hope a future buyer will consider a full restoration.  Having driven many of these models for decades I know this one to be a gem because of its factory configuration being silver, original, unmolested and being complete. To gauge a market price perhaps looking up what a decent used motor and seats recently sold recently sold for on eBay would be helpful.  If you are a serious buyer, I encourage you to see the car, put it on a lift and perform any inspection you wish; I'm also happy to connect you with my mechanic to answer any questions.Cheershttps://mb190e16v.com/history/
