1941 chevy truck 1/2 ton. This was a very late 41 production because it had the stamped steel outer door handles and bakelite window cranks and rear window without a die cast ring that indicated war production 1942, but still had a one piece headliner and die cast turn signals from 1941. cowl VIN tag present and legible, 5AK is a 1941 Kansas City built 1/2 ton. Bed is a 1941 long bed that has been shortened 9 inches, rear fenders are 37-38 thick steel with the style line around the opening. Found at a farm sale in 2016. matching paint has been added to the front clip and bed because they were completely surface rusted. cab doors and roof are original paint. structural rust (cab floor, front and rear cab mounts) was cut out and repaired. cosmetic rust (front cab corners under fenders, section of back wall hidden by bed, body line on rear cab) patched and sealed. there was rust through on the running boards were the mounts were attached, that has been completely structurally repaired but not cosmetically. there was some rust through on the upper wiper cover that I patched. I have the key to the drivers door lock but not to the passenger lock. I rebuilt the windshield, it was rusted and swollen but now after new connectors, new screws, new center bar, new glass, and new gasket it fits well and looks great. I rebuilt the window regulators and installed new window felts. the drivers door latch was rebuilt but the passenger did not require it. I installed new handle rods to let the doors open from inside. bed is the original S10 steel bed floor covered with a cedar veneer using the original bed strips.
this truck would take thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars to make beautiful, but that would be a gigantic waste of time. better to accept it for what it is, a truck you can drive every day, haul mulch from the garden center, take to show and shines. it is a hit even at the gas station.
1995 S10 donor with 4.3 Vortec TBI and NV3500 5 spd, 3.42 rear axle with G80 locker, odomter showing 143k and runs with no smoke or leaks, great oil pressure. maintenance to the donor included: cap rotor plugs and new TBI injectors, new fuel pump and filter. true dual exhaust with smithys glasspacks. new front brake rotors and wheel bearings, new calipers and pads, new hard and soft brake lines front and rear. balljoints and bushings showed recent replacement but the right lower arm balljoint was spun in its pressing so the entire lower arm was replaced. new shocks, belltech 2" drop spindles and 1" drop springs, atlas 4" drop leaf springs with intact overload. new aluminum radiator with new 16" curved blade fan and 210/195 fan switch/relay. I used the entire firewall section of the S10 grafted to the 41 cowl to mount all the pedals, including the heavy steel structural supports. engine and trans moved back 10" with new motor and trans mounts. new energy suspension polyurethane body bushings, I designed and constructed the steel body mounts. frame has been sanded and painted black.
inside the truck has new vintage air mini system with heat only, but has the evaporator for adding AC, the OEM donor compressor is still on the engine. finishing AC would require a condenser and dryer installed in front of the radiator and lines made. the OEM donor lines are included, if they will help. the original S10 seat has been recovered in black vinyl, laid new black carpet over thick 5/8 jute which is laid over foil backed sound deadening. the original removable section of the floor is still removable in case you ever need to do transmission work. the original 1941 shifter was modified to attach to the NV3500 and a pleather boot was added. the orginal donor shift lever and boot are included. the donor gauges were modified to fit the 1941 dash and work with no warning lamps on. even the "shift" light, prompting you to upshift, works. the dash was sanded and painted black. speedway 1940 steering wheel. the glovebox lock is new, there is a custom kydex glovebox behind the door. interior is roomy, I am 6' and a big guy and I fit fine. everything works, all lights, turn signals, new LED taillights, horn, even the daytime running lights! this donor did not come with cruise control installed but is prewired for it, so if you buy the actuator (plug in harness under hood) and the switch (plug in harness under dash) it will install and work. I have done some small work since these pictures were taken, the battery has a proper hold down now instead of a bungee cord, the carpet door strips are installed, the rear fenders have braces at the rear, the old gas filler hole has been filled.
driving the truck is like driving a modern car, very smooth and lots of power. the ONLY thing I could say as a nit is that reverse grinds if you are not at a complete standstill before shifting into reverse, otherwise the drivetrain shifts smoothly and the clutch take up is easy. I will take a running/driving/walkaround video and add it to the auction. I do not drive it in the rain because washing it at the jet wash it is like washing a screen door. add to that, there are no wipers installed. I have a half tarp and bungees to keep water out when parked outside that will be included. you should expect a 77 year old truck when bidding, the door handles droop a little. the doors are slightly misaligned, there is no adjustment in the hinge bolts and the factory service manual says the adjustment is done with a large pipe wrench bending the hinge itself, a procedure I do not have the tool or skill for.
TERMS: I build a couple of these a year, the last one sold local. the one before that on ebay. I am very sensitive to the market on these trucks. if you need it shipped, I will include FREE shipping in the contiguous US with the buy-it-now at the original price. also included with the original buy-it-now is a very very nice condition upper and lower grille and a front bumper. for any other price I will help you arrange shipping at your cost and the extra parts will not be included.
I recommend that you at least drop by and drive it before bidding because there will be no returns accepted or refunds given. the truck is sold as-is with no guarantees or warranties. driving it will only make you appreciate all the time I spent getting things right, like the pedals and the seating position, the accessibility of everything under the hood. I am not a reseller. the title is clean and in my name, the truck is currently registered tagged and insured. I also have the title to the donor and both will be provided. I am not an expert at titling in your state, but
I am giving you the valid 1941 title, its currently tagged in Kansas
with this title, and which should be good for any US state. If you have any questions or need additional pictures please ask before bidding. You need to send a $500 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours after winning the bid, and pay in full (cash in person, cashiers check by mail) within 7 days. in the case of shipping, your payment will clear my bank before the title is sent and before the truck leaves. For delivery of less than a 1000 miles one way, I could probably do it myself for an agreed price.
